There will be a new yarn in the shop this week.
This is exclusive to The Yarn Yard and is a 90% merino 10% cashmere lace yarn, which I have called Betwixt.
Let's face it, sometimes we just need a little bit of lace yarn, not a huge skein.
So this is a yarn meant for little somethings. For a soft lace scarf or for a triangle necklet rather than a full blown shawl.
It is available in little skeins, not full size 100g ones. I think it's probably unique in being a hand-dyed yarn available in this form.
It's a hand dyed yarn with no repeating pattern to the dye application.
The colours are closely related, but not boring. This one has charcoal, soft dove grey, anthracite and bitter chocolate.
The yarn arrives on cones (unusual for me) and I wind off into 25g skeins. They are actually 26g, but what's a gramme between friends? Then I dye it and dry it.
After this it is rewound to make the skein more free running so that it won't tangle when you wind it.
It can be wound gently onto a ball winder or hand wound into a ball.
There are approximately 300m of yarn in 25g.
You can use it single for fine lace or it could be used double for something slightly heavier.
It's quite floaty and delicate, but it's not a slithery slippery yarn and I am designing the colourways to match the rather ethereal feel.
It's going to be £6.95.
Stocking filler anyone?
