SPOILER ALERT !
I will put a photo of the July Fibre Club fibre at the end of this post with lots of white space first, so if you don't want to see it (this applies to overseas customers, really) then beware.
I've been spindle spinning on my trusty Ashford basic spindle. This is the spindle I now shove in my bag and take with me to meetings and friend's houses. I think I may have the beginnings of a spindle addiction actually. Some of you live with people who question your need for yarn when you "haven't finished the last lot". I don't have that problem, but I forsee similar conversations going on over spindles. I am rehearsing my defence.
Why do we need more than two kitchen knives?
Why do you need more than one kind of running sock? (NB not shoes, socks)
Why do you need more than two watches? (He has a bit of a horological habit.)
This is the merino tencel, the second spindling. It makes it sound rather like a vintage cider or olive oil.
I love how it's turning out, very soft and subtle.
This is a particularly skinny bit, my spinning is not that fine all the time!
The second batch of spindle parcels will go out tomorrow, and the progress of everyone who bought one of the first batch has been astonishing, wonderful handspun is popping up all over the place.
I have Cranford Mitt news too.... just take a look at these, created by an Edinburgh knitter, blogger and book reviewer of considerable repute. Aren't they just fabulous?

70% merino, 30% silk. The inspiration was a thunderstorm in the back garden (we had another one last night actually).
This is my test-dye fibre, so there's only about 80g here and I'm not sure what I want to make with it, but this is definitely not for socks! If you'd like to subscribe to the Fibre Club or the Yarn Club, please click here.
These are the only Clubs in the UK which are offered as a monthly subscription, and you can opt in and opt out whenever you like. If you join today then you have the added bonus that your recurring membership will happen at the end of each month, and dovetail neatly with other things. This is also your last chance to join with Paypal as the subscription provider. The new website will offer the Subscriptions via Card Payments instead, not Paypal. Existing members will not be affected and their subscriptions will continue via Paypal (unless, of course, they wish to change).
I realise I haven't been blogging as much in the last week or two. This is because I've been dyeing for the Clubs and also writing blurbs for the new website which will come online on 08-08-08, next Friday. I'm quite ridiculously excited about it... it's cool as beans.
Please note that in order that the new site, Shopping Cart and Card Payment system can be thoroughly tested, the current shop will go offline in the middle of the week. I'll let you know when this is going to happen nearer the time.
Tonight we are off to see kd lang in concert... squeeeee!
I think this is my favourite song.... or maybe this one. Both of these are from the album "invincible summer" which was released during a holiday in Toronto, nine years ago. It was on the radio in the cab which took us the airport on the way back to Scotland and it will forever remind me of that wonderful time. Real summer music, don't you think?
